Bio

Robert R. Johnson, PhD, CFA, CAIA is the Chair and CEO of Economic Index Associates, a NYC-based financial index and research firm. He is also Professor of Finance in the Heider College of Business at Creighton University. He was formerly President and CEO of The American College of Financial Services and Deputy CEO of CFA Institute. He also served on the board of RS Investments, a San Francisco-based investment management firm.

Bob has published over 80 articles in leading finance and investment journals. His areas of expertise include the influence of Federal Reserve Monetary Policy on asset valuation, value investing, and portfolio management. He has co-written several books in addition to this one, including Strategic Value Investing, Invest With the Fed, and The Tools and Techniques of Investment Planning. In addition, he co-authored a CFA Institute Research Foundation Monograph entitled The Role of Monetary Policy in Investment Management. His book Strategic Value Investing has been on Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting Reading list for each of the past five years.

He has been extensively quoted in the global financial media including The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fortune, The Washington Post, and The South China Morning Post, among others. He has appeared on numerous financial TV and radio programs including ABC World News, Bloomberg TV, CNBC and BNN, among others. He writes a regular column for El Mercurio (Chile) and has written invited columns for Barrons, The Financial Times, Forbes and Fortune, among others.

Bob is the recipient of the 2013 CFA Institute, Alfred C. “Pete” Morley Distinguished Service Award, CFA Institute, June, 2013. He also received the University-wide Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Student Award for Teaching Achievement from Creighton University.

He received his B.S.B.A. in finance from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1980, MBA from Creighton University in 1982, and Ph.D. in finance/investments from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1988. He earned his CFA charter in 1991 and his CAIA charter in 2011.

Bob is based in Charlottesville, Virginia. When he is not presenting or doing research, he is spending time with his wife Heidi and two dogs. He enjoys running and cycling.
